About Us

Our Mission

The Mission of Lakota Reparations Fund is to support Lakota grassroots Elders and their community centered projects in addressing the immediate needs of the Oyate (the People).

Our Values

Wacantognaka – generosity means to contribute to the well-being of one’s people and all life by sharing and giving freely.

Wotitakuye, kinship is another value living in the Tiwahe/family or Tiosopaye/ extended family, living in harmony, relationships and trust and measure of wealth is your family. Lakota’s considered relationships sacred whether they were blood relations, by marriage or hunka They will support you in good times and in bad times.

Wacintaka -fortitude believing in yourself and facing danger and challenges that come your way with strength, confidence, and courage. Believing in oneself allows a person to face challenges. It also includes accepting the problems you encounter and finding solutions that will be good for self and others. Fortitude requires patience, perseverance and a strong mind in the face of challenges, including fear.

Woksape- wisdom is the value that the Lakota consider sacred. Wisdom and knowledge of the elderly were of utmost importance to the tribe at all times. It also has to do with understanding and living the spiritual values and beliefs upon which one’s culture is founded and being able to share these with others. Wisdom means being able to incorporate the sacred way of life into one’s own life and to respect and honor all life. It means being open to the dreams of the day and the night when spiritual direction may come to a receptive child or adult seeking wisdom.

Wocekiya- prayer communicating directly with Tunkasila and know you are heard and we include everyone.

Wah’hola respect for self, family, community all life.

Wahwala, humility, no more no less than all that lives.

Waunsila, caring and compassion for all especially the old ones, the young ones, those in mourning, those who work helping the people. We strive to follow the values each day and we include everyone in our wocekiye/prayers.

Land Back Gatherings 2021: The Land Back Movement refers to much more than just reclaiming our Lands. The movement refers to reclaiming all that has been taken from us and brining those things back to The Oyatè (The People), where they belong. We as Lakota have been generous in the way that we are inclusive and share all Spiritual Ways and Culture with all who desire to learn, but this generosity is being taken advantage of and our Children suffer as a result. The Uncis (Lakota Grandmothers) are saying enough is enough, and are calling back the bundles, the, values, the medicines for The Wakaneja (Sacred Children) and Future Generations. Our original teachings are not being respected or honored, and respect is what is at the core of all of our teachings. This is changing now.

On Summer Solstice 2020 at Mahto Tipila (known as devil’s tower) Traditional Oceti Sakowin Elders of the Seven Sacred Council Fire and their Families gathered to hold a historic Star Knowledge Gathering at this sacred site. These gatherings are essential to the Lakota Way of Life and the responsibilities that must be kept up to create and maintain a sacred balance within oneself, the culture, and the Land of which they belong. Indigenous tribes throughout the world were all given their own instruction to maintain the balance in all Relations. This lack of balance is threatening life as we know it and Indigenous Peoples around the world are reclaiming these ways, because we know without them there is no Protecting the Sacred.
